Purpose + Vision + Resilience + Adaptability

Dear friends,

I can't believe it's almost the new year.

Students are back to school in some form or fashion (I've got two high school seniors in my house) and we've been going a little stir crazy being confined indoors due to COVID.

At work, this time of year is typically a time for annual planning, budgeting and company strategy refreshing because the start of a new calendar and/or fiscal year is right around the corner.

But with so much in a constant state of flux, organizations need to be mindful of not getting too far ahead of themselves. It's good (and necessary) to know where you are going and why you are going there but make sure to create space to be nimble for unanticipated but critical shifts.

How can you plan and yet remain agile? It's a magic formula of purpose + vision + resilience + adaptability.

What I mean by that is it's time to double down on your company's purpose and vision while also strengthening your team's resilience and adaptability.

Purpose + Vision. There's never been a more important time than now to be clear on your organization's purpose and vision. Be repetitive about your reason for being and your envisioned future and involve the team in finding ways to achieve it. Purpose helps people find meaning in their work and is one of the single biggest factors in employee engagement. When business shifts happen, your purpose and vision still provide a sense of direction.

Resilience + Adaptability. No longer buzz words or "nice to haves", resilience and adaptability have become required competencies. Someone once told me that resilience is about the ability to "bounce forward" when the going gets tough. I believe adaptability is an essential skill to optimize that "bounce" more quickly and with better results.

Apply this magic formula and let me know how it goes for you.

Be well,

-- Christine
